Activity and fields of competence
The research activity is aimed at the study of materials for biomedical use and tissue regeneration, with particular reference to:
- Action of growth factors on mature cells of bone tissue and on the differentiation of stem cells from bone marrow and adipose tissue for the in vitro development of engineered tissues
- Behaviour of stem cells, osteoblasts, osteoclasts and macrophages grown on biomaterials
- Characterisation of explants of materials used in surgery and of newly formed tissues at the prosthetic interface
Technological Resources
Our group uses macroscopic, microscopic biochemical and molecular techniques to study the behaviour of primary human cells with natural synthetic or hybrid substrates in order to develop bioactive materials in tissue regeneration.
It also carries out biocompatibility tests on commercially available or newly formulated materials (Cytotoxicity, Genotoxicity, Adhesion and Proliferation of primary human cells, protein adsorption and synthesis, gene expression, mineralization and calcification studies; cytokine release, complement activation, MIFtest, SEM, TEM; Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Morphometric investigation also on non-decalcified bone tissue).
